The Lighea Onlus Foundation in Milan inaugurates an exhibition of pictorial works created by patients with mental health problems and contemporary professional artists in a double journey that interprets the female portrait.
At the end, a charity auction will be held to support the Foundation's activities.

The care of art, interior worlds that emerge to illuminate that darkness of the mind that is difficult to enter. Art and psychiatry, two fields very often combined, when the possibility of expressing oneself and the cathartic value of the artistic gesture can be a path to the patient's recovery. This is the spirit of the "Author's Portraits" initiative, an exhibition project pursued by the Lighea Onlus Foundation of Milan, created with the aim of leading patients to undertake an evolutionary path through a service that integrates psychotherapeutic, rehabilitative and pharmacological aspects.
The “Portraits of Authors” project is an exhibition of works created by patients of the Foundation and thirty-one professional artists from the contemporary world, called to develop a double path with a common theme through multifaceted expressive models: the portrait of a woman. “What is commonly defined as art therapy is a clinical experience that places the expressive phenomenon at the center of its practice” says Martina Adamuccio, young art critic curator of the exhibition. "It is a very useful technique, used both in childhood and adolescence therapies and in psychosis and personality disorders in adulthood. Drawing, using colors on paper, constructing shapes, are simpler and easier to implement expressive methods than words and the formation of a speech, and therefore, lead the individual to express himself in a more spontaneous way. Artistic production, in fact, has been proven to have positive effects on patients suffering from mental distress and psychosis of various kinds".
The thirty-one contemporary artists who act as counterparts to the patients act as guides and companions
ideally the patients in the exhibition itinerary, and at the same time they are witnesses of the "outside world",
with the aim of eliminating barriers to open up to a single world in which freedom of expression is common
denominator. At the end of the exhibition, all the works will be auctioned and the proceeds will be invested
in the Foundation's research activities.
